Third day of the virtual visit to the Valakupiai Rehabilitation Center

The Virtual Study Visit to the Valakupiai Rehabilitation Center in Vilnius, Lithuania, ended on April 27, 2021, with the participation of more than fifty participants, social professionals and representatives of public and private social service providers from the country. The focus of the last online meeting with colleagues from Lithuania was on rehabilitation through work, supported employment, and a presentation of the impact of Covid-19 on people with disabilities in Lithuania

Justė Gulbinaitė –Rimkienė presented the rehabilitation services through work provided by the Valakupiai Rehabilitation Center. She elaborated in detail the approach to the needs of the users, the methods and tools used by the center, the ways of monitoring and the evaluation of the quality of the services, as well as the capacity offered by Valakupiai. In the second session, Eugenija Danieliute presented in detail the services for integration of young people: supported employment, cooperation with employers, work with parents and gave several case studies.

The third session was an opportunity for participants to express their impressions and draw parallels between experiences and practices in North Macedonia and those in Lithuania. At the same time, Rasa Noreikytė Ustinavičienė, from the Valakupiai Rehabilitation Center, presented the impact of COVID-19 on persons with disabilities in Lithuania, as well as the measures taken and support networks.

The three-day virtual study visit is part of the activities of the project “Support to the modernization and deinstitutionalization of social services” for capacity building of professionals working in the field of social services in the Republic of North Macedonia. This unique opportunity was used by hundreds of social professionals and representatives of social service providers in the country, who during the three-day virtual visit were introduced to many aspects and challenges, as well as experiences in implementing modernization and deinstitutionalization of social services in Lithuania.
