Social dialogue

Lazar Petrov, Demir Kapija

We are talking with the mayor, Lazar Petrov, about the conditions and improvements that the new Local Social Plan will bring. Demir Kapija is one of the eight municipalities, which with the support of this project, recently adopted a local social plan for the period 2021-2024, as part of the broader national reform to organize the social services system based on the principles of deinstitutionalization, pluralism and decentralization. The municipality already has extensive experience in the process of deinstitutionalization and transformation of the Special Institution Demir Kapija, and was actively involved in the first wave of relocation of people with intellectual disabilities to small housing units.

For the first time in the municipality of Demir Kapija, community social services as help and care at home will be introduced. These services will be delivered to twenty users, elderly and frail people, most often people with disabilities and chronically ill people, who need help and support in their home.
